Hi I’m Heather!

I help people to overcome their addiction to alcohol by helping them to identify what foods and supplements will help their unique brain to heal from excessive alcohol use, stop their cravings in their tracks, and achieve long-term sobriety.

Get Started

THINK YOU’RE ALONE IN THIS STRUGGLE?

I’VE BEEN EXACTLY WHERE YOU ARE. I KNOW WHAT IT’S LIKE TO TRY. AND TRY…

I tried to stop drinking on my own. Many many times. AA, NA, CA, SMART recovery, Refuge Recovery, Recovery Dharma. Individual therapy. Intensive Outpatient Therapy. Group therapy. So many meetings. So many sponsors. So many steps. So many failures.

I tried more “out there” alternative approaches. Thinking aversion therapy could be the answer, I enrolled in a 10-day program in Seattle, where I was administered daily doses of ipecac and was literally made to drink shot after shot of vodka under the supervision of a nurse. Hating myself, the ipecac would kick in and make me violently throw up. For hours. That experiment cost $27,000 in an attempt to punish myself into sobriety. That lasted a good 6 weeks before I again turned to booze.

I kept trying. There had to be a solution. Not to be deterred by my failed experiment in Seattle, I later bought a device that I wore on my wrist, and I would administer electric shocks to myself (no joke) every time I thought about drinking. Yup.

I went to rehab. Let’s just say, ahem, more than once. With every new long-term residential stay, I would emerge feeling healthy and committed to my sobriety. But I hadn’t cured the underlying damage to my brain that made resisting cravings feel impossible. So with every relapse, every “failure,” every broken promise to myself and my family, my shame and self-loathing grew.

I was desperate. And I was done with every other approach out there. I had tried them all. At the time I thought that I had failed. Now I know that those programs failed me.

They could not deliver on their promise of long-term sobriety as long as I did not address the underlying reasons why I drank, and continued to drink. Therapy helped me to uncover deep trauma, and while my therapist(s) helped, all the talk in the world wouldn’t remove the underlying crippling anxiety and depression, my constant companions since adolescence.

I knew I needed a different approach to recovery. One that didn’t involve just talk therapy, or prescription pills, or 12 steps or proclamations of powerlessness.

Here is where my Ivy League education in food policy and agriculture, my life-long interest in nutrition, and my desperate need to change my own life converged.

I researched. I talked to leading experts in addiction, psychology, neuroscience, and behavior change. I read. And read. And I found that we actually do know how to overcome addiction.

I hadn’t cracked the code to sobriety. I had unearthed 50 years of research that had been ignored, buried, or lost.

This is not pop psychology. This is not woo. This is cutting-edge neuroscience.

And it will change your life.

What I discovered blew my mind, and changed my life. The key to recovery was not in my medicine cabinet, but in my pantry.

FOOD, of all things, was what my brain needed to heal itself, rebuild all of those feel-good brain chemicals like serotonin and dopamine, and finally get me off of the addiction-relapse train to nowhere.

Over the course of ten years, I have implemented and refined my approach to using food and supplements to help people struggling with alcohol use to rein in their cravings, tackle relapse triggers, and achieve sobriety for good.

With my proven Brain Body Recovery program, we work together to get your brain and body healthy, thriving, and working for you and your burning desire—your freaking birthright—to have a life full of joy, fulfillment, passion, and peace. (I don’t know about you, but when I was in the throes of my addiction, peace felt like an entirely unattainable fiction. I can tell you, after years of healing myself and others, this is entirely within your reach!)

I did it. And I know you can do it too.
